PINPOINT TEST A : ALL WINDSHIELD WIPER MODES ARE INOPERATIVE
A1   CHECK FOR BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?

Yes
REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) (419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules, Diagnosis and Testing).
No GO to A2


A2   CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH PARAMETER IDENTIFICATIONS (PIDS)
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the following BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs):
    • Front wiper interval / Auto wiper switch (FRNWIPER_Int)
    • Front Wiper Command Low Speed (FRNWIPER_Lo)
    • Front Wiper Command High Speed (FRNWIPER_Hi)
  • Place the wiper/washer switch through all settings, one at a time, ending with the wiper/washer switch in the off setting.

Do the Parameter Identifications (PIDs) correspond correctly with the wiper/washer switch settings?

Yes VERIFY the CJB fuse 11 (20A) is OK. If OK, GO to A5
If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams manual to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
No GO to A3


A3   BYPASS THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Connect:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2081-3   C2081-5


  • Ignition ON.

Do the windshield wipers operate?

Yes REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.
REFER to: Steering Column Multifunction Switch RH (211-05 Steering Column Switches, Removal and Installation).
No REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to A4


A4   CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280E .
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2081-5   C2280E-8



Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to A10
No REPAIR the circuit.


A5   CHECK THE FRONT WIPER MOTOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN TO THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE)
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280B .
  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2280B-10   Ground



Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

Yes GO to A6
No REPAIR the circuit.


A6   CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Windshield Wiper Motor C125 .
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C125-4   Ground



Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to A7
No REPAIR the circuit.


A7   CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OUTPUT

NOTICE: This test uses a test lamp to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only a Rotunda Test Lamp (SGT27000) or equivalent 250-300mA incandescent bulb test lamp. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Rotunda Flex Probe kit for the test lamp probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test lamp probe directly on any connector.

  • Connect:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

  • Connect BCM C2280B .
  • Ignition ON.
  • Place the wiper/washer switch to the low speed and then off setting.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the wiper/washer switch is in the low speed setting?

Yes GO to A9
No GO to A8


A8   CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) FRONT WIPER RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280A .
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2280A-12   Ground



Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to A10
No REPAIR the circuit.


A9   CHECK FOR WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSB . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and follow the TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor.
REFER to: Windshield Wiper Motor (501-16 Wipers and Washers, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.


A10   CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Disconnect and inspect all the BCM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the BCM . Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSB . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and follow the TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM .
REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) (419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.



The Intermittent Windshield Wiper Setting Is Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Correctly

  BCM DTC Fault Trigger Conditions


  DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B1008:92 Wiper Mode Switch: Performance or Incorrect Operation Sets when the BCM detects a short to ground from the intermittent and low speed wiper request input circuits (circuits shorted together) or a short to ground from the intermittent and high speed wiper request input circuits (circuits shorted together).
B1C53:13 Front Wiper Intermittent Data: Circuit Open Sets when the BCM detects an open from the interval setting input circuit.

PINPOINT TEST B : THE INTERMITTENT WINDSHIELD WIPER SETTING IS INOPERATIVE OR DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
B1   CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE LOW AND HIGH SPEED WIPER SETTINGS
  • Ignition ON.
  • Place the wiper/washer switch to the low speed, high speed and then off setting.

Do the windshield wipers operate in any setting?

Yes GO to B2
No GO to Pinpoint Test A


B2   CHECK FOR BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) B1008:92 OR B1C53:13
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

Is DTC B1008:92 or B1C53:13 present?

Yes For DTC B1008:92, GO to B5
For DTC B1C53:13, GO to B3
No GO to B7


B3   CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH INTERVAL SETTING FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Perform the wiper/washer switch component test.
    Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 149 for schematic and connector information.

Does the wiper/washer switch pass the component test?

Yes GO to B4
No INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.
REFER to: Steering Column Multifunction Switch RH (211-05 Steering Column Switches, Removal and Installation).


B4   CHECK THE INTERVAL SETTING INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect BCM C2280E .
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to B11
No REPAIR the circuit.


B5   ISOLATE THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH (DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) B1008:92)
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Connect:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2081-9   C2081-5


  • Ignition ON.

Do the windshield wipers operate?

Yes REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.
REFER to: Steering Column Multifunction Switch RH (211-05 Steering Column Switches, Removal and Installation).
No REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to B6


B6   CHECK THE INTERMITTENT WIPER REQUEST INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE LOW SPEED AND THE HIGH SPEED REQUEST INPUT CIRCUITS
  • Disconnect BCM C2280E .
  • Disconnect BCM C2280F .
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes GO to B11
No REPAIR the circuits in question.


B7   CHECK THE FRONT WIPER INTERVAL / AUTO WIPER SWITCH (FRNWIPER_INT) PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the BCM PID FRNWIPER_Int.
  • Place the wiper/washer switch to the intermittent speed and then off setting.

Does the PID indicate Active when the wiper/washer switch is in the intermittent setting?

Yes GO to B10
No GO to B8


B8   ISOLATE THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH (INTERMITTENT INPUT CIRCUIT)
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Connect:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2081-9   C2081-5


  • Ignition ON.

Do the windshield wipers operate?

Yes REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.

No REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to B9


B9   CHECK THE INTERMITTENT WIPER REQUEST INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280F .
  • Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to B11
No REPAIR the circuit.


B10   CHECK THE INTERVAL SETTING INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280E .
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2081-10   Ground



Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.
REFER to: Steering Column Multifunction Switch RH (211-05 Steering Column Switches, Removal and Installation).

TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, GO to B11
No REPAIR the circuit.


B11   CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Disconnect and inspect all the BCM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the BCM . Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSB . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and follow the TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM .

The Rain Sensitive Wiper Feature Is Inoperative

  BCM DTC Fault Trigger Conditions


  DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B1008:92 Wiper Mode Switch: Performance or Incorrect Operation Sets when the BCM detects a short to ground from the intermittent and low speed wiper request input circuits (circuits shorted together) or a short to ground from the intermittent and high speed wiper request input circuits (circuits shorted together).
B1C53:13 Front Wiper Intermittent Data: Circuit Open Sets when the BCM detects an open from the interval setting input circuit.
U0231:87 Lost Communication With Rain Sensing Module: Missing Message Sets when the BCM determines a communication error has occurred on the LIN . This may be caused by an open in the rain sensor power or ground circuit or an open in the LIN circuit between the rain sensor and the BCM .

  • Place the wiper/washer switch to the low speed, high speed and then off setting.

Do the windshield wipers operate in any setting?

Yes GO to C2
No GO to Pinpoint Test A


C2   CHECK FOR BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) B1008:92, B1C53:13 OR U0231:87
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

Is DTC B1008:92, B1C53:13 or U0231:87present?

Yes For DTC B1008:92, GO to C5
For DTC B1C53:13, GO to C3
For DTC U0231:87, GO to C18
No GO to C7


C3   CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH INTERVAL SETTING FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Perform the wiper/washer switch component test.
    Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 149 for schematic and connector information.

Does the wiper/washer switch pass the component test?

Yes GO to C4
No INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.
REFER to: Steering Column Multifunction Switch RH (211-05 Steering Column Switches, Removal and Installation).


C4   CHECK THE INTERVAL SETTING INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect BCM C2280E .
  • Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to C23
No REPAIR the circuit.


C5   ISOLATE THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH (DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) B1008:92)
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Connect:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

  • Ignition ON.

Do the windshield wipers operate?

Yes REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.

No REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to C6


C6   CHECK THE INTERMITTENT WIPER REQUEST INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE LOW SPEED AND THE HIGH SPEED REQUEST INPUT CIRCUITS
  • Disconnect BCM C2280E .
  • Disconnect BCM C2280F .
  • Measure:

Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes GO to C23
No REPAIR the circuits in question.


C7   CHECK THE FRONT WIPER INTERVAL / AUTO WIPER SWITCH (FRNWIPER_INT) PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the BCM PID FRNWIPER_Int.
  • Place the wiper/washer switch to the intermittent speed and then off setting.

Does the PID indicate Active when the wiper/washer switch is in the intermittent setting?

Yes GO to C10
No GO to C8


C8   ISOLATE THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH (INTERMITTENT INPUT CIRCUIT)
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Connect:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

  • Ignition ON.

Do the windshield wipers operate?

Yes REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.

No REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to C9


C9   CHECK THE INTERMITTENT WIPER REQUEST INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280F .
  • Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to C23
No REPAIR the circuit.


C10   CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH INTERVAL SETTING PARAMETER IDENTIFICATIONS (PIDS)
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the following BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs):
    • Front Wiper Select Switch A (FRNWIPER_A)
    • Front Wiper Select Switch B (FRNWIPER_B)
    • Front Wiper Select Switch C (FRNWIPER_C)
  • Place the wiper/washer switch to each intermittent speed and then off setting. Refer to the following table.

Yes GO to C12
No GO to C11


C11   CHECK THE INTERVAL SETTING INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280E .
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2081-10   Ground



Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.
REFER to: Steering Column Multifunction Switch RH (211-05 Steering Column Switches, Removal and Installation).

TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, GO to C23
No REPAIR the circuit.


C12   CHECK THE WINDSHIELD FOR DAMAGE
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Inspect the windshield glass for any cracks, pits or other visible damage around the area of the rain sensor.

Is any windshield damage present near the area of the rain sensor?

Yes INSTALL a new windshield glass.
REFER to: Windshield Glass (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, Removal and Installation).
No GO to C13


C13   CHECK THE WINDSHIELD GLASS FOR STREAKING
  • Ignition ON.
  • Turn the wiper/washer switch to the low speed wiper setting while applying water to the windshield surface. Observe the wipe quality, especially around the area of the rain sensor.

Is any streaking present on the windshield around the area of the rain sensor?

Yes GO to C14
No GO to C16


C14   CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES FOR STREAKING
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Clean the windshield glass with glass cleaner.
  • Clean the wiper blades with isopropyl alcohol swabs. Wipe the entire length of the wiper blades.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Place the wiper/washer switch to the low speed wiper setting while applying water to the windshield surface. Observe the wipe quality, especially around the area of the rain sensor.

Was there noticeable improvement in the wipe quality after cleaning the glass and the wiper blades?

Yes GO to C15
No INSTALL new wiper blades. GO to C15


C15   RECHECK THE RAIN SENSITIVE WIPERS OPERATION

  • Reconnect the BCM . Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

NOTICE: The test step uses a test lamp to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only a Rotunda Test Lamp (SGT27000) or equivalent 250-300mA incandescent bulb test lamp. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Rotunda Flex Probe kit for the test lamp probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test lamp probe directly on any connector.

  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Washer Pump C137 .
  • Connect:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

  • Ignition ON.
  • Activate the windshield washer function using the wiper/washer switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the washer is activated?

Yes INSTALL a new washer pump.

No VERIFY the CJB fuse 15 (15A) is OK. If OK, GO to H6
If not OK, GO to H2


H2   CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280A .
  • Install a new CJB fuse 15 (15A).
  • Ignition ON.

Is the CJB fuse 15 (15A) OK?

Yes REFER to the Wiring Diagrams Manual to identify the possible causes of the circuit short between the washer pump and the BCM .
No GO to H3


H3   CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect BCM C2280B .
  • Install a new CJB fuse 15 (15A).
  • Ignition ON.

Is the CJB fuse 15 (15A) OK?

Yes GO to H11
No GO to H4


H4   CHECK THE CJB (CENTRAL JUNCTION BOX) WIPER/WASHER SWITCH VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
  • Install a new CJB fuse 15 (15A).
  • Ignition ON.

Is the CJB fuse 15 (15A) OK?

Yes GO to H5
No REPAIR the circuit.


H5   CHECK THE WASHER REQUEST INPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

  • Ignition OFF.

Yes GO to H7
No INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch.

I2   CHECK THE REAR WIPER INPUT SWITCH STATUS (R_WP-SW) PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the BCM PID R_WP-SW.
  • Place the wiper/washer switch to the rear window wiper on and then off setting.

Does the PID indicate Active when the wiper/washer switch is in the rear window wiper on setting?

Yes VERIFY the CJB fuse 13 (15A) is OK. If OK, GO to I5
If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams manual to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
No GO to I3


I3   ISOLATE THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
