Workshop >> PRR Flat / Boom car
This is a kitbash that I started on after really falling in love with the Pennsylvania RR back in the late 1990's. I was crazy about all things Pennsy, and wanted more rolling stock for my collection. I pulled out some cheap plastic models I had laying around, and started thinking of ways I could bash together some unusual and fun stuff. One idea was this boom car. It's based on an N32 (I think) class Flat car with an N5 (I think) cabin car plopped on top. The planking is wood and the frame is painted black. The caboose section has been slightly modified to fit the flat and painted black & PRR Buff. I have some trucks, decals and other details to install, but since I am now modeling the Baltimore & Ohio RR this car will have to wait.
Front 3/4 view
Rear 3/4 view. The cabin is not glued on yet.
Closeup on decking. The boards are a little wide, but look nice with the weathering. I made nail holes with a dental pick.
Closeup on Cabin
Another rear closeup.
