The Georgetown Branch: Gallery: De-Furring & Filling Holes

12/21/2003- So I ripped off all the furring strips and started to plug the holes left by the nails I pulled out of the walls. Those 3" masonry nails are a royal PAIN! I had to use a crowbar to remove them which even got somewhat worn down from the pulling. I guess they do their job. So now the walls are clear of the furring strips I can paint the walls one final time, and reinstall the strips.

Furring strips off, patching in. I need to do one final coat b/c some of the patches cracked while drying. Actually, many of them did. Kinda looks like the wall is riddled w/ bullet holes, doesn't it?

Here's the stuff I used to patch.

Oh yeah, the rehung door. This isn't the nicest of doors, but it works ok. The folks who did the finishing of my basement did a real crappy job so I'm constantly dealing with their poor craftsmanship. This door, for example, had liquid nails holding the lock set in place b/c all of the places for screws to go had been stripped. I only discovered this when I took it apart and found that not only was there liquid nails in there but the core of the door is packed/glued sawdust and CARDBOARD! What a piece of junk!! Oh well.
