The Georgetown Branch - Ben Sullivan
The Georgetown Branch: Gallery: Tour: From Little Falls Rd. to Georgetown

09/24/2004 - On my commute to work I decided to snap some pics. I took quite a few. Some are of remaining infrastructure and others are of the right-of-way.

MP 4.2: Battery Box, north side. This concrete box houses batteries used for the detecting equipment to activate signals. Most likely for the Little Falls Rd. crossing which was protected by flashing lights & crossbucks. This one is locked, with a metal "trash-can" type lid.

Battery box, south side. Here you can see the vent on the end. Box is concrete, a few inches thick.

Battery Box: Lid. Lock passes through holes in metal bar and latch mounted to concrete on each side.

MP 4.5: Building near River Rd. Once housed an Auto Parts store.

Another view of building. For more detailed pics, see my page from 1/18/03 when I toured this area, also in the Gallery.

Track in pavement - still there. This siding ran to the right side of the building in the previous two photos.

River Rd. Crossing. Here the r-o-w has been covered with this pedestrian bridge. View is South.

Now atop the bridge over River Rd., facing North. This is Landy Ln. where the track is still embedded in the road. The siding curved up to service the buildings to the right. The large building to the left was originally a Hot Shoppes/Marriott warehouse and the B&O had a siding which curved to the left side of the building and then around back where there was a large overhead crane for unloading materials.

Farther on the bridge, across River Rd. on the West side, here are the buildings which house Channel WDC 20. When the studio was put in place, trains were asked to refrain from blowing their whistle for the crossing because it would interfere with the broadcast. They complied, and the crossing was flagged.

On the East side are some storage buildings. Earlier there were several fuel dealerships located here.

Farther down the track, on the West side, behind WDC 20, there are some other old offices which still exist. Now a construction company, body shop and landscape business, they retain their industrial appearance.

This view is looking East from the South end of the Bridge. This is where a fuel dealership was once located.

Again, further South. A siding branched off here to serve the fuel dealers.
Pics 2004_09_13-gb_tour016.jpg
Now on the pavement below, the r-o-w can clearly be seen. The bridge covers the mainline, while the left side was where a passing siding existed. View is North.

Standing about on River Rd. now, facing South. R-o-w to the left. You can clearly see the property line of the railroad here, along the line of pilings and trees. Some ties still litter the area.

Standing under the bridge, facing North. R-o-w directly under bridge.

This sign appears to be one of the oldest in the area.

Farther down, near the South end of the bridge, there was a siding, which branched off to serve some fuel dealerships. The r-o-w passed directly underneath the BMW in the foreground, matter of fact, some of the track is still visible below the front of the car.
