09/24/2004 - On my commute to work I decided to snap some pics. I took quite a few. Some are of remaining infrastructure and others are of the right-of-way.

MP 6.2, here is the view from Bridge #14 looking West at the Dalecarlia Reservoir. The Washington Aqueduct (or a feeder from it) ca. 1853-63, passes below this bridge. This photo shows where it empties into the pool. Click here to read more at the National Park Service.

Bridge #14, Northwest end. Detail. Railing was added when hiker-biker trail was built.

MP 6.2. Dalecarlia Tunnel, North end. Tunnel is 340.9' long. Construction began in 1908 and was finished in 1910. Kelly Regan has an image of the original Bridge Plan from the B&O on his site.

Unlike the South end, this end has brick abutments flanking the right of way. West side.

Also, this North end has the Date spelled out in brick on each "wing" of the tunnel portal face. Here is the "10" on the West side (as in 1910).

Above the Arch is "DALECARLIA" spelled out in brick.

Along the walls of the tunnel are these indentations for workers to seek refuge in case a train happens to pass while they're in the tunnel. There are about 4 on each wall, staggered in placement. They are about 1.5' deep and 5' high.
